Position- Police Officer
Police Officer Requirements:
- Minimum of 20 years old
- US Citizen
- Possess a North Carolina Driver’s License or ability to obtain license.
- Honorable Discharge from the Armed Forces (if applicable)
- Must be a graduate of North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training, or currently certified by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Standards Commission, or North Carolina Sheriff’s Standards Commission, or be certified in another state and eligible for out-of-state transfer as defined by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training Standards Commission.
- Must complete and pass the Background Investigation, Medical Exam, Pre-employment drug screening, Psychological Exam, and Firearms Qualification.
Benefits:
- Starting salary- $53,040.00 with salary increases for education, experience, and North Carolina Intermediate or Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate, as well as Spanish fluency. Employee receives a 5% salary increase upon completing a 6-month probationary period.
- Take Home Patrol Vehicle- To qualify, you must live within a 30-mile radius of Troutman city limits.
- Employer-paid health, vision, and dental insurance along with life insurance. Insurance goes into effect 30 days from the first date of employment.

Position- Police Recruit
Police Recruit Requirements:
- Minimum of 20 years old
- US Citizen
- Possess a North Carolina Driver’s License or the ability to obtain a NC license.
- High School Diploma or equivalency certificate
- Honorable Discharge from the Armed Forces (if applicable)
- No Felony convictions
- No Class B Misdemeanor convictions and no more than 3 Class A Misdemeanor convictions in the past 5 years.
- Must successfully complete and pass the Physical Abilities Test, Written Test, Background Investigation, Medical Exam, Pre-employment drug screening, and Psychological Exam.
Benefits:
- $42,182.40 salary while attending Basic Law Enforcement Training.
- Upon graduation salary increased to Police Officer salary of $51,000.00 along with any incentives for education and Spanish fluency. Employee will receive a 5% salary increase upon completion of a 6-month probationary period as a sworn Police Officer.
- Employer-paid health, vision, and dental insurance along with life insurance. Insurance goes into effect 30 days from the first date of employment.

Hiring Process
Applicants must successfully pass or complete each step to advance and be selected for employment as a Police Officer with the Troutman Police Department.

- Police Officer Physical Abilities Test (POPAT) *Police Recruit Applicants Only
- Written Test *Police Recruit Applicants Only
- Interview Board
- Interview with Chief of Police
- Background Investigation
- Pre-employment Drug Test
After these steps are completed successfully the applicant will be given a conditional offer of employment followed by:
- Medical Exam
- Psychological Screening
- Firearms Qualification (Certified Applicants)
