Greenway System

The Richardson Greenway runs parallel to Main St and connects to Troutman ESC Park’s paved walking trail near Town Hall. The greenway is part of the Carolina Thread Trail project- a regional network of greenways, trails, and conserved lands across 15 counties in North and South Carolina. The Town obtained grant funding to extend the trail to the north in 2015 and plans to extend the trail to the south in the near future. This trail used to be an active railroad and is part of the North Carolina Rail-Trail system. North Carolina Rail-Trails is a state-wide non-profit with a mission to create a statewide trail network from abandoned railroad corridors.

In the Fall of 2018, grant funding allowed the Town to construct a multi use path from Main Street to South Iredell High School for bicyclists and walkers. The Richardson Greenway intersects to this segment, which is part of the Troutman Loop of the Lake Norman Bicycle Route. This segment of the greenway is named South Iredell High School Greenway.

Location & Hours: The existing greenway can be accessed from the Downtown Depot Shelter (137 N Main St), Troutman Town Hall (400 N Eastway Dr.), Iredell County Fairgrounds (630 N Main St.), or the Iredell County Recreation Center (122 Grannis Ln.). The greenway is open every day with no time restrictions; however, only portions of the greenway are lighted.

Please contact the Parks and Recreation Department if any portion of the Greenway needs attention. 704-528-7600, ext 3, option 2.
